Book Donations

The Jarrell Community Library accepts printed and audiovisual donations according to the following guidelines:

  • All donations of materials are accepted with the understanding that the library is free to dispose of them in any way. Donations not added to the collection will not be returned.
  • ACCEPTABLE donations are those pertinent materials that will usefully augment the present collection.
  • UNACCEPTABLE donations include (but are not limited to) the following items:
    • Encyclopedias.
    • Textbooks, scientific, and medical books older than five years.
    • Magazines older than five years.
    • Abridged materials Reader’s Digest Condensed Books, abridgements of classics or children’s stories.
    • Advance reading copies or uncorrected proofs.
    • Material in poor condition (dirty, moldy, burnt, water damaged, damaged or missing pages or binding).
  • Staff is able to politely decline donations that are not suitable.
  • The final decision will be made by the Library Director (or their designate).
  • Receipts for income tax purposes can be issued on request. However, the value of the donations must be determined by those making the donation and approved by the Library Director (or their designate).
