Library Board

Janet Hage, President

Janet has lived in the Jarrell Community just shy of 30 years. In addition to raising her six children here with her husband, Janet worked at the City of Jarrell for ten years and then at Jarrell ISD for five years. Currently she is a local developer and entrepreneur who continues to contribute through civic volunteering, participating on various committees, and leading the Jarrell Community Library Board. Janet’s dedication to her community is a reflection of a grateful heart for all Jarrell has given her, and she looks forward to supporting a growing library in an expanding community.

Barb Horak, Secretary

Barb is a retired financial analyst and banker who was born and raised in South Georgia and relocated to the Jarrell area in 2005. Barb is very active in her church: she sings in the choir, plays in the handbell choir, and contributes to various church committees. Barb enjoys taking her certified therapy dog, Ruby, to visit schools, nursing homes, libraries, and military bases to bring joy and comfort to those in need.

Gwen Blakeslee, Treasurer

Gwen moved to Jarrell from nearby Pflugerville in 2008 following her retirement from the CPA firm she and her husband ran for 35 years. Through their neighborhood and church they have made many friendships in the greater Jarrell area. In addition to serving on the Library Board, Gwen enjoys country western dancing, golf, fishing, and road trips around central Texas with her husband.

Wes Roach, Member at Large

Wes moved to Texas for culinary school and then stayed to run several area restaurants. Currently he is a part-time blacksmith, bladesmith, and full-time dad to his family: his wife, their son and three dogs. The Roach family is active in their church and has always enjoyed reading.

Shay Stearns, Member at Large

Shay has been a Jarrell resident since 2004, when she and her husband moved here following their retirement. She loves working with children, and in addition to having seven grandchildren and eight grand-children, she is a volunteer reader at the Library’s weekly Pre-K Storytime. Shay also loves gardening, crocheting, and singing in local choirs. A passionate library supporter, Shay feels it is important for children to use the many social and educational resources that the library makes available to them to help them become well-rounded personalities.
