Unattended Children and Teens
Jarrell Community Library and Resource Center (JCLRC) welcomes and encourages all children to use our facility and services.
The library is free and open to children over the age of twelve. Children from ages 9 to 12 may be unaccompanied while attending a special program (waiver required). Additionally, children aged 12 to 15 may serve as teen volunteers (waiver/application required). Children who are volunteering or attending a program should be picked up within 15 minutes of the activity’s completion. All children should be picked up 15 minutes prior to the library closing time.
All unattended children must adhere to appropriate behaviors as outlined for library members.
The library assumes no responsibility for the supervision or safety of unattended children and teens, other than those programs and activities listed above.
The library reserves the right to contact the police if the above criteria are not met. Staff members will not transport a child to another location.
Unattended Vulnerable Adults
Jarrell Community Library and Resource Center (JCLRC) strives to provide a warm, welcoming and safe environment for all community members. The library is particularly concerned for the safety of vulnerable adults in and around the library. A vulnerable adult is an individual over the age of 18 who is mentally or physically challenged to a degree that significantly impairs the individual’s ability to provide adequately for his/her own care or manage his/her own behavior without assistance. Vulnerable adults are held to the same standards of behavior as other adults in the JCLRC. Vulnerable adults, who can understand and follow the rules of conduct and who can care for themselves, are welcomed to be in the Library unattended. They should have contact information for a parent/guardian or caregiver who can assist them in an emergency.
Every reasonable effort will be made by the staff to assist the vulnerable adult in contacting the appropriate adult. If no responsible adult is reached, or the vulnerable adult is not picked up within 15 minutes of library closing, staff may notify the police.
