Internet Access
Jarrell Community Library and Resource Center (JCLRC) recognizes that computers and the Internet address the research, educational, and recreational needs of the public. The library offers public computers with print capability and a copy machine; and Wi-Fi throughout the main building. Users sign themselves in with a JCLRC Library Card.
Printing and copy are available in both black and white and Color. Prices are posted. Users approve all printing and are responsible for payment of a print job. Payment may be made with cash or personal check. Users whose library patron accounts are blocked may have to pay fines before being allowed to use public computers.
Users should be aware that information on the Internet might be inaccurate, incomplete, dated or offensive to some individuals. The library strongly recommends that users evaluate the validity and appropriateness of information obtained via the Internet. Reviewing multiple sources on the same topic is advisable, as is using the domain names – .edu, .gov, .org – to insure well researched information.
The user is responsible at all times for using the Internet appropriately. The library encourages parents/guardians to supervise their child’s Internet sessions to ensure appropriate content and safe access.
Use of the Internet for unlawful purposes including, but not limited to, the production or distribution of threatening material; expressions of bigotry, racism or hate; obscene or sexually explicit material; and material protected by trade secret is prohibited. The harassment of other Internet users is also prohibited.
Illegal duplication or download of software, music, or any other copyrighted materials is prohibited. The copyright laws of the United States, Title 17(US Code) and The Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998 govern the copying and reproduction of copyrighted materials. Anyone using this equipment for reproduction is liable for any infringement.
It is important that library technology users:
- Protect all personal passwords and PINS. This includes selecting passwords that are difficult to guess and changing them on a regular basis. In addition, personal passwords and PINS should not be written down nor should they be shared with others.
- Consider carefully before giving out personal information over the Internet. It is strongly recommended that users under the age of eighteen do not give personal information without parental consent.
- Be aware that electronic transactions and files sent over the Internet could become public.
- LOG OUT OF ALL ACCOUNTS or lock the station before leaving a computer. Any information left on the screen is available to anyone that can access it.
Social Media
Social media is defined as any web-based tool such as a blog, micro-blog, online forum, content-sharing website, or other digital channel established for online interaction and connection. Jarrell Community Library and Resource Center maintains a presence on social media sites such as Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.
These JCLRC sites allow users to interact with the library’s profile.
Comments and posts on JCLRC’s social media sites, postings or photos containing any of the following may be removed:
- Obscene comments or hate speech
- Personal attacks, harassment or threatening language
- Potentially libelous statements
- Political directives
- Plagiarized or copyrighted material
- Commercial messages or spam
- Private or personal information
- Falsification of identity
- Any illegal activity
- Solicitation for donations, or memberships or services requiring a fee from entities not affiliated with the JCLRC or without prior approval
Many other social media sites exist, with more sites becoming popular every day. The library encourages our patrons to share news about library happenings, however — any videos or photos created in the JCLRC building, grounds, or at JCLRC events in the community — MUST have the participants’ permission to be publicly shared.
The library does not collect, maintain, or otherwise use the personal information stored on any third party site in any way other than to communicate with users on that site. Users should be aware that third party websites may have their own privacy policies. By posting any comments, the user agrees to indemnify Jarrell Community Library and Resource Center and its representatives from and against all liabilities; damages and costs incurred which arise out of or are related to the posted content.
